Welcome to My New Blog!


It’s taken a little time and a lot of legwork (I definitely suffer from the curse, or blessing in my line of work, of perfection.)

This means that I’m going to be coming to you regularly with some great content, so be sure to follow along.

Today, I’m chatting about the reality of the Edmonton Wedding Industry and how it impacts both wedding professionals and consumers alike.

For those of you who don’t want to stay until the end, that’s okay, because here’s a summary of what I’m talking about.

We have two big things that greatly impact our local industry more so than some other markets:

  • Edmonton (and the Canadian wedding market in general) is a tiny market in the wedding industry, especially in comparison to the US. This means that supply and demand hit our couples harder than most.
  • We simply do not have enough demand and when you pair that with our dollar being weaker than the US dollar, this means it’s more expensive for local suppliers to bring stuff in and those expenses are passed onto the customer.
  • This means that for those of us planning weddings, we have to be more conscious about what’s available, where we’re spending our money and being aware of where things are coming from.
  • The second thing that’s having a BIG effect on the Edmonton Wedding Market, is that we’re now living in a digital marketplace. This is very evident through things like Amazon, Uber, Airbnb & Netflix. Access to information and products is easier than ever through the internet and social media.
  • This is affecting the wedding industry from the kinds of weddings we’re planning to how we do business, and the kinds of couples we’re working with.
  • Couples today are quite savvy and often times are educating themselves and starting to source things before even talking to a wedding pro.
  • However, the source of this education is causing major frustrations for wedding pros because the information itself is often inaccurate, especially when it comes to budgets and expenses, and this is making our jobs so much harder.
  • It’s not their fault though because the problem with the information lies with the source.
  • Conduct a Google search and couples have access to tonnes of information, the problem is most of it is coming from media companies and magazines that have ulterior motives and often doesn’t entirely apply to those of us in the Edmonton and Canadian market, putting couples at an educational disadvantage.
  • Another option is Facebook Groups. There are plenty available for engaged couples, but they have their own problems. They are often not frequented by many wedding pros, so much of the information passed in based on personal opinion and experiences. However, because these opinions are often coming from uneducated sources, this is further setting up couples for sticker shock, and unrealistic expectations.

So I’m setting out to change this.

It is my goal that this will be a better way to educate couples. 

I’ll be launching an episode every Friday on YouTube where I, along with some fellow Edmonton professionals, will aim to provide a real, clear education for couples as they plan their weddings. 

Alongside the YouTube channel, I’ve also created a Facebook Group. It is open to couples based in Edmonton or planning a wedding in Edmonton alongside Edmonton wedding pros. 

This is not just another buy and sell, and in fact, I won’t allow any posts to that fact.

Rather, it is a community and a safe space where couples can come and ask questions, get support and learn more about planning a wedding. 

Respect is going to be rule #1. Every couple is entitled to have the wedding that they want their way, and anyone caught shaming and bashing will be removed. 

I’m also going to be sharing some exclusive content along with our weekly episodes just to keep the ball rolling and have a little fun along the way.
